What the young maestro managed to extract in tonal and rhythmical subtlety as well as tension from the releatively modest Prince Igor overture of Borodin was astonishing. Wonderfully delicate instrumental colours in Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite – the entire interpretation earns the rating `brilliant’ !
From the second Sascha Goetzel walked on stage ...we knew we were in for a treat of a concert. He’s one of those magical conductors who ooze charisma, connecting with every single member of the orchestra, pulling in the audience to come along with them for the ride.
The Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra (BIPO), under the baton of enthusiastic Viennese-born conductor Sascha Goetzel, seems destined to make a difference in today’s music world, a world where international orchestras are tending to sound more and more alike and have, in a sense, become interchangeable.
And no-one could have asked for a higher level of engagement last night from Austrian live wire Sascha Goetzel and his amazingly high level Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra.
