Introduction

A programme of ballet music composed during the turbulent inter-war years of the 20th century. The music reflects the edgy, dangerous and restless political and social landscape of the period. This is music of great rhythmic vitality, from Ravel’s refracted memories of a vanished Habsburg Vienna destroyed by the First World War to the primitive barbarism of Prokofiev’s Scythian Suite.

This orchestra can play! This is a tremendous release!

There is something uniquely exciting about hearing a keen young orchestra devouring difficult but exciting music whole, which is precisely what the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic does here.

This is not just a fine disc, it’s a sensational set of perfromances from an orchestra that a few years ago was pretty unknown.

The Turkish All-Stars give hard edged perfromances under Sascha Goetzel.

„The Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra proofs to be among the most distinguished bodies of sounds at the moment. “…. BIPO plays this wild, rough, pulsating, sometimes melancholic depressive and without doubt technically difficult music thanks to the sovereign leadership of Mr Goetzel of the CD immense precise and with full energetic power. “
